The Iolite vaporizer has become my best bud buddy! I am trying to give up smoking and my girlfriend said she’d seen these travel vaporizers in a headshop in London. At that point I had never actually tried using a vaporizer so I didn’t really know what to expect and to be honest I was a bit dubious. But it was my birthday and she owed me a decent present! (I had done an awesome DJ set for her birthday just a few weeks before – 90′s rave all the way – woop-woop!)

Anyway, the Ioilite cost 140 squids (£140 to any foreigners reading this) and it claimed to be the best travel vaporizer available. When I got it I was like – “this thing is miniscule and it weighs less than a packet of crisps! – what’s it gonna do?”. Hmmm, I was in for a treat. A bit more than a treat in fact – I really overdid it the first time around. Got my Iolite, got my green, packed it into the rather small bowl bit, thinking this ain’t enough for a decent hit, but I’ll just do it twice… Well stone me! I was stoned!! Straight away – no messing about. Far too stoned, truth be known. But not in the same way as I was used to. It was much more heady, if you know what I mean. I didn’t feel like sitting on the sofa – everything just went very fuzzy, very colourful, which was cool… I got traces too and time seemed to go backwards and forwards all at once. I hadn’t felt that mashed from a hit of weed since I did my first bong many moons ago. But the difference was that I was still up for doing stuff, rather than keeling over and turning the colour of the Incredible Hulk. However, the stuff I was capable of doing was not the stuff I had planned for the evening: I had thought I’d get a nice mellow vibe going and sort out a load of computer bits and bobs that really needed sorting. No. Chance.
So the next time I used the Iolite, I was a lot more cautious. I used half the amount I used the first time and had a much more controllable experience. The thing with the vaporizer is that you don’t actually inhale any smoke because vaporizers don’t burn your weed. They just heat it up and you suck in the vapour. Which is weird – cos you don’t really feel anything. You can taste it though which is pretty pleasant. I know it sounds obvious, but it’s a really herby taste! And you don’t get that when you’re smoking a joint, cos it’s burnt and it’s also mixed with burnt tobacco. Unless your’e a nut-job and you smoke pure weed spliffs.
I wanted to write this review to let you guys know that I am now a convert to the use of vaporizers. I gotta admit, I do miss smoking – 17 years is along time! – but now that I can enjoy a decent bit of Mary Jane without worry about wrecking my lungs, I am one happy chap. I’ve looked into other vaporizers to see what’s out there and I think I got the best one first time around. It suits me totally – I can slip it in my pocket and take it anywhere, not like some of the big models out there – even some of the travel ones would need an extra bag, which kinda defeats the purpose.
Oh, and the best thing about the Iolite is – no batteries needed!!! This vaporizer runs on lighter gas alone. Pretty damned cool. I don’t leave the house without it. If you’re thinking about getting one, I would say the Iolite is well worth the money – you’ll save on consumption too, cos you don’t need as much weed as you do in a spliff or a bong. Make the switch guys, smoking is SO last year!!
